Sleep Therapy

Terapia del Sueño

Sleep apnea is a common disorder in which a person who pauses once or more than once when breathing. The duration of the pause may vary from a few seconds to some minutes and its frequency is at least 30 per hour. The pause usually ends with an abrupt snore. It is a chronic pathology that alters the normal cycle of sleep. Since it occurs when the person is sleeping, the first person detecting the pathology is usually someone close.

The most common type of sleep apnea is the obstructive one. Respiratory tracts’ diameter is reduced or even blocked during sleep. When the person tries to breath, the air he/she needs can cause rough snores when it passes by the obstructed part. The most common symptomatology is excessive sleepiness throughout the day, noisy snores and irritability.

Our aims are that people affected by obstructive sleep apnea are given the right treatment and follow-up from our team. The treatment consists of a mandibular advance device whose action mechanism is to make both jaw and tongue move forward in order to maintain the breathing tracts opened to ensure an adequate and correct breathing during sleep. This fact will rise the sleeping quality. Once the degree of openness that ensures a correct breathing is reached, it will be necessary to track the condition by regular inspections.
