Doctor Alberto Ortiz-Vigón has presented the solidary project Smile is a Foundation in the XLV Humanities Week organized by Academy of Medical Sciences of Bilbao. Doctor Ortiz-Vigón was invited to take part in the “Health professionals’ contribution to the international cooperation: gender perspective” round table, and he took advantage of the opportunity to present the activity of the non-profit organization of which both Clinic Ortiz-Vigón and PerioCentrum are founding partners.

Gender perspective and health

The Humanities Week is an anually organized event by Academy of Medical Sciences of Bilbao. The event lasts several days and every year a subject matter is assigned. “Gender and health” was this year’s topic. During these days, from February 12 to February 15, contribution of the professionals of the different medical disciplines to the relations between gender perspective and health was discussed. The Academy of Medical Sciences of Bilbao (centenary institution of Bilbao) counts on the “participation and collaboration of well-known doctors, pharmacists, veterinarians, odontologists and biologists of the public and private healthcare of Biscay “.

Biosanitary solidary project

Doctor Ortiz-Vigón shared the discussion pannel with Eduardo García-Langarica (president of Medicus Mundi), David Turró (The Director of Farma Mundi’s Area of Education for the Development, Incident and Global Citizenship), Ainare Idoiaga (veterinary and ex-director of Limbewildlife centres – Pandrillus NGO) and Nieves Zabala (biologist and ex-chairwoman of Medicus Mundi).

The experience of the participation in this XLV Humanities Week organized by the Academy of Medical Sciences of Bilbao was really wealth-producing and positive, because it is vital to consolidate the projects carried out by the solidary project Smile is a Foundation to reach more people and to rise awareness of the need of cooperation. Smile is a Foundation aims to build up actions in the fields of cooperation and international development in developing countries. It is our Foundation’s desire to meet the needs of most vulnerable people with no access to free healthcare.
